Vellagavi village Trek

 Vellagavi village trek

The Vellagavi village

This is a beautiful village located on the top of the mountain. It houses only 250-300 people in a tiny demography encircled by the huge mountains of Kodaikanal. The only way to reach the village is by trekking 7 kilometres from the place called Vattakanal where the trek begins. The trek route to this village from the Vattakanal is like entering into a different world as one would feel the fresh unpolluted air we go more, chirping birds, buzzing insects, a labyrinth of towering trees and at some places where the thick dense cover canopy of trees obstruct the sunlight to pass through even. This trek will be rewarding, To one whose own potential will be unleashed as it would demand physically, To one who seeks a crowd-less offbeat place to find peace.

The must thing to do in this Vellagavi trek is to watch the sunrise from a peak. Wake up in the dark morning and start the hiking to the sunrise point again all the way to the peak point is a completely lush thick dense covered forest till it opens up at the top . We hike simultaneously as the early morning dark sky makes its ground before the sun moulds its full face from the orange-reddish horizon to every step of her beautiful face. Watching this on top is serene at its peak. One would be lost and connecting to the place is so common one can witness.

One can experience this by staying in a tent on the hilltop, sleeping under the open sky star gazing at views ,spending time with loved ones in the campfire

The People in the village are leading a different life than the rest of the world .
  • The only mode of transportation is by walk and trek 7km (one-sided).
  • They preserve their own distinctive cultural set of rules one such is wearing a chappal inside the village is not allowed.

This is not only a trip that one deems, this is an  experience one can feel once in their lifetime

The best time to visit - All throughout the year
